Jesus, I Trust In You.

The Gift and Devotion to Divine Mercy

God has a wonderful gift for you … and it’s FREE!  The gift of Divine Mercy forgives not only our sins, but the temporal punishment due to these sins—you know, the final cleansing our souls need to make them perfectly clean and pure to get into Heaven.  It is like a “Go to Heaven – Do Not Stop at Purgatory – Go Directly to Heaven!” card.  And all of this happens on the Sunday after Easter – Divine Mercy Sunday!  Interested?  Check this space in next week’s bulletin for more information.  In the meantime, you can check out some of the books as part of the display on Divine Mercy at the Parish Library and get a jump-start on your learning!

How do we know about this Free Gift of Divine Mercy? Jesus told St. Faustina Kowalska all about it and St. Pope John Paul II firmly established it within the Church.  There are some great books in the Parish Library that can tell you a lot more—but bottom line is that Jesus wants to immerse us in His Divine Mercy, His complete and total forgiveness.  And He wants to do this because … well, because He loves us!  These are the things we need to do to receive our FREE GIFT.
  • Go to Confession (shortly before Divine Mercy Sunday) and sincerely repent of your sins—after all, when you approach Jesus, you want to be as clean as you possibly can be, don’t you?  [You can also go to confession a few days after Divine Mercy Sunday if you have no mortal sins on your soul on the Feast Day].
  • Celebrate this special Feast by attending Mass on Divine Mercy Sunday and receiving Holy Communion.
  • Place complete trust in Jesus and venerate the image of The Divine Mercy (see image).  The image contains the words: “Jesus, I trust in You”.  Our time of veneration is to connect us more deeply to Jesus as we ask for His gift of complete forgiveness.
  • AND – just as Jesus is merciful to us, we need to show mercy to others in our prayers, and in our words, and in our actions.  We need to allow others to see and feel God’s love flowing through us.
WOW—sounds simple and yet the Gift is beyond comprehension!
  • Many people also pray a 9-day Divine Mercy Novena leading up to Divine Mercy Sunday.  (This will be offered at St. Helen with the closing of the novena on Divine Mercy Sunday.) This is a wonderful way to prepare ourselves and to pray for others on our journey of Faith.
To learn even more, check out the books in the Parish Library and/or the pamphlets in the Gathering Space and allow God’s Divine Mercy touch your heart!
